What the app is

Enochian Chess is the four-handed chess variant of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, descended from the Indian game of Chaturaji. Four elemental armies — Air, Water, Fire and Earth — contend on a quartered board, their moves commanded by the throw of a die. The app also includes an optional divination mode that uses the same symbolism.

Getting started

Learn the rules. Tap How to Play on the main menu for the full rules — the board, the pieces and their unusual moves, the die, the thrones, and how a game is won.
Choose how to play. In Setup, pick four players, two players (two armies each), or two teams; turn the die on or off; and optionally let the computer command any kingdom.
Play online (optional). Choose Play Online to start a turn-based match through Apple Game Center. You’ll need to be signed in to Game Center on your device, and online matches need at least two players.

Common questions

Online play isn’t working. Make sure you’re signed in to Game Center (Settings → Game Center) and connected to the internet. Matches are turn-based, so the other player(s) may not respond immediately.
The Queen moves strangely. That’s correct — in Enochian Chess the Queen leaps exactly two squares in any direction and jumps over pieces. See How to Play.
Two pieces are on one corner. The corner thrones start with the King and Bishop together (“double occupancy”). It splits once one of them moves.
